Gov. Fayose Conderm the killings by herdsmen in ekiti state.

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has warned that there could be reprisal attacks on Fulani herdsmen in the state if they did not desist from invading communities in Ekiti and attacking their people.

He described the Fulani herdsmen that invaded Oke Ako in Ikole local government area of the State on Friday, killing two residents of the town and injuring others, as “agents of the devil that must be fished out and punished accordingly.”

Governor Fayose, who commiserated with the people of Oke-Ako, especially the family of the deceased, vowed to do everything humanly possible to forestall the reoccurrence of such attack and safeguard the lives of Ekiti people.

According to a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said the Fulani herdsmen were becoming major threat to the unity of Nigeria and its people, saying; “I will not fold my hands while armed herdsmen invade communities in Ekiti, killing people and destroying fmarmlands at will as they have done in other States.

“I have directed the police and other security agencies in the State to fish out the killer herdsmen. I am in constant touch with the security agencies and I hope that the killer herdsmen will be fished out wherever they are and made to face the full wrath of the law.

“The people of Oke-Ako should therefore remain calm while the security agents do their job. However, the security agents must be mindful of the fact that the people’s patience has a limit and they must therefore act promptly and decisively.”

The governor, who described activities of the Fulani Herdsmen as inimical to the revival of agriculture in the country said; “Farmlands costing billions of naira have been destroyed in States in the South-West, South-East and North-Central zones of the country. One wonders how Nigerians can go back to farming when those already in the farms are losing billions of naira worth of crops to destruction of their farmlands by the Fulani Herdsmen and the Federal Government is not doing anything about it.”

He said; “I am sounding a note of warning to the Fulani herdsmen and those who can talk to them should also do so now. If they continue with these wanton attacks, killing of the people and destruction of farmlands in Ekiti, I cannot guarantee that there won’t be reprisal attacks.

“I can also not guarantee the level that the reprisal attacks can get to because as a governor, it is my responsibility to defend and protect my people.”

He called on President Mohammadu Buhari to stop paying lips service to the Fulani herdsmen’s menace, saying “as patron of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), President Buhari has the capacity to call the herdsmen to order.

“President Buhari should therefore call his people to order because this is Ekiti; our people have the rights to defend themselves.

“Most importantly, President Buhari must be reminded of how he was so concerned about the killing of Fulani herdsmen in Saki, Oke Ogun Area of Oyo State such that he, as a private citizen led Arewa to Ibadan on October 13, 2000, to confront the then Governor of Oyo State, late Alhaji Lam Adesina.”

Boko Haram Chief Bomb Maker Shot Dead By The Nigerian Army......................................

The Nigerian Army today announced the death of an unnamed man, described as the “chief bomb maker” of the Boko Haram terror group, reportedly at the hands of a bodyguard of militant leader Abubakar Shekau.

A statement by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations said the development was a major breakthrough in the clearance and rescue operation by the Nigerian military, and that it also confirms that all is not well within the Boko Haram terrorist's camp.

“The chief bomb maker, apart from his high status in the command structure of the Boko Haram terrorists, he was one of their capable hands involved in making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), coming after their chief scientist, called Abu RPG (who has been killed long ago),” he said.

He added that the man was shot by the bodyguard as he was about to run away as many other terrorists are now doing on account of the intensity of the army’s Operation CRACKDOWN.

Colonel Usman noted that another man referred to as “Julelebeeb”, was appointed to take over from the bomb-maker, is also now completely blind because his eyes were shattered by shrapnel during the preparation of an IED to consolidate his appointment.

“There is no doubt, this development has dealt a devastating blow on the terrorists’ capacity for IED assembly, training, suicide bombing and their ability to sustain their criminal acts,” he continued. 

He reassured the public that Nigerian troops are continuing with clearance and rescue operations successfully towards completely clearing away remnants of the terrorists wherever they might be hiding.

Niger Delta Militants bomb Agip gas pipeline; demand release of Kanu, Dasuki.

YENAGOA- A new militant group, Red Egbesu Water Lions, has surfaced in the Niger Delta region, just as suspected militants, Tuesday night, blew up the Sagbama-Tuomo gas line, belonging to Nigerian Agip Oil Company, NAOC, at Egbembiri, Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State . A security source, who confirmed the explosion, said: “Egbembiri is a border town between Bayelsa and Delta states. They destroyed the Ayama section of the Ogboinbiri-Tuomo gas pipeline with dynamites at about 9.00 pm on Tuesday. That line was earlier repaired, last week and again vandalized.” “We, however, suspect that dispute over the surveillance contract led to the attack. The Agip pipeline links major oil facilities in Delta and Bayelsa States,” he added. The new militant group in a statement by its Creek Network Coordinator, “General” Torunanawei Latei, said it was teaming up with the Niger Delta Avengers and Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. “It issued the Federal Government a seven-day ultimatum to release Nnamdi Kanu, former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki and direct EFCC to defreeze the bank accounts of ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupol, alias Tompolo, Threatening to shut down all oil exploration activities in the Niger Delta at the expiration of the ultimatum, the group also demanded “unconditional immediate payment to victims of the Bonga Oil Spill and Chevron gas explosion in Koluama, Bayelsa state.” “It is extremely important to note that the engine room of the national interest is the executive obedience to court orders, protection and preservation of citizens’ constitutional liberties. Justification of executive disobedience to court orders as a protection of national interest is abominable. “This is a deliberate ploy to bend the law and suspend the 1999 Constitution. We ask, does President Muhammadu Buhari have any legal capacity to declare anyone as a criminal? Disobedience to court orders is an act of executive rascality in the country,” the group added.

NLC Walks out of meeting with FG, vows to begin strike today.

Indications have emerged why the talks between the Nigerian government and the leaders of organised labour hit the rocks Monday night.

The federal government had announced the deregulation of the petroleum downstream, a development that has jerked up the price of Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as fuel from N86 to N145 per litre.

Following the development, labour leaders threatened to embark on nationwide strike if the price was not reversed within 96 hours.

In a bid to stop the strike action, the government called for a dialogue with the workforce Monday.

A competent insider hinted DAILY POST that the federal government during the meeting with the Ayuba Wabba-led NLC proposed N120 per litre but labour rejected, describing it as outrageous.

According to him, the presidency said the best they could do was to reduce the pump price by N25, in consideration of the outcries by Nigerians.

“That was why the meeting ended in deadlock. FG proposed N120 per litre but the NLC insisted on total reversal to the old price, which is N86 per litre.

“They were not ready to accept the outrageous proposal.

“The outcome of the meeting with the Joe Ajaero-led group would determine the next line of action,” the source who would not want his name mentioned said.

However, efforts to reach the NLC General Secretary, Peter Ozo-Esun for confirmation could not yield any fruit at the time of this report.

The NLC and TUC Treatens to shut down Nigeria if Federal Gov. refuse to reverse the N145 petrol pump price.

The two factions of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and members of Civil Societies, yesterday, rose from their respective emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meetings, vowing to call out Nigerians on a nationwide strike on Wednesday if the Federal Government fails to retrace its steps on the contentious N145 new pump price of petrol recently announced by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.

The announcement by the junior minister ‘deregulating’ the downstream sector of the Nigerian oil and gas industry has also ignited another round of free fall of the naira in the foreign exchange market.

A development the president of Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON), Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, said was caused by the permission the minister granted the fuel importers to source their foreign exchange from secondary sources.

According to him, the market had been stable all this while due to drastic reduction in imports, “but the announcement on Wednesday has changed the whole thing.” He fears that the exchange rate will rise to N400 a dollar this week if the condition persists. On Thursday, the naira lost N7 to the dollar as exchange rate rose sharply to N334 per dollar from N320 per dollar.

This persisted on Friday with the parallel market exchange rate rising to N370 per dollar which translated to N50 depreciation of the naira in two days.

Kachikwu had said that the lingering fuel scarcity in the country was caused by the forex crisis in the country since the collapse of the prices of crude in the international market.

A development that forced the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to peg the official exchange rate of the naira against the US Dollar at N197 a dollar.

He said, “The reason for the current problem is the inability of importers of petroleum products to source foreign exchange at the official rate due to the massive decline of foreign exchange earnings of the Federal Government. As a result, private marketers have been unable to meet their approximate 50 per cent portion of total national supply of PMS (Premium Motor Spirit, also known as Petrol).”

It is against this backdrop that experts say that unless the fuel subsidy is retained, the importers will in the nearest future, increase the pump price of petrol again, otherwise, they will be running at a loss and will not be able to go back and import more.

The options available then are that the subsidy is retained and the price pegged or the importers continue to bring in the product at the rate naira is exchanging with the dollar at the forex market and sell as he buys.

The implication, according to a former president of Association of National Accountant of Nigeria (ANAN) Dr. Samuel Nzekwe, is that price of petrol would rise to N200 a litre gvery soon and will then fall down slowly if the naira stabilises.

Meanwhile, the organised labour, accused the President Muhammadu Buhari administration of betrayal of trust reposed on him by Nigerians, stating that the hardship the administration has brought on Nigerians since its inception over a year ago is not in tandem with the change mantra of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which Nigerians voted for.

President of the Wabbaled faction of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, at the end of the union’s meeting in Abuja yesterday, lamented that President Muhammadu Buhari had broken his electioneering promise of not removing fuel subsidy if he was elected.

According to him, the Congress would on Wednesday May 18 mobilise Nigerians to the streets, close down the airports, sea ports as well as all public and private offices after which he added that the labour unions would direct Nigerian workers to embark on indefinite industrial action as their response to the government’s policy.

The NLC President, who read the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting on behalf of other unions, lamented what he called the Federal Government’s disinclination for consultation on issues of public interest and its obsession with protecting product marketers at the expense of the Nigerian public.

The Comrade Joe Ajeroled NLC, which concluded its emergency Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting, in Lagos yesterday afternoon, said, “Where the government fails to heed these calls and correct itself, we shall be forced to call Nigerian workers and masses out onn the streets all over the country to shut the critical sectors of this economy down for as long as it shall take to force the government to subject itself to the desires of the people.”

Comrade Wabba noted that after his election, President Muhammadu Buhari had maintained that there was no subsidy in the petroleum product price regime and that even if there was, he did not see how its removal would be beneficial to the ordinary Nigerian, noting that the slightest product price adjustment often leads to inflationary spiral and unimaginable suffering for the people.

“On January 18, 2016, the government further allayed the fears of the Nigerian people by reducing the pump price of PMS to N86:50, explaining that the reduction was in furtherance of the implementation of the revised component of the Petroleum Products Pricing for PMS and kerosene,” he said.

The unions also blasted Kachikwu for allegedly speaking from both sides of his mouth saying, “Whereas last year, he had strongly canvassed for the removal of ‘subsidy’ in defiance of President Buhari, about a month ago, he claimed the subsidy had been removed through his ingenuity and that Nigeria was saving $1billion from this process”.

The unions had, therefore, wondered what informed government’s sudden and dangerous policy summersault and its desperate attempt to convince the public that Labour was part of the decision that led to this price increase.

They further said that the new price announced by the Federal Government without the input of the board of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), which is statutorily vested with powers to recommend price, is illegal, noting that since the board of PPPRA was yet to be constituted, the Federal Government has no right to fix price unilaterally.

While arguing that the new price increase is unrealistic, unaffordable, unacceptable and is thus rejected by Nigerian workers, the NLC President said that there has been no increase, in the past five years, in salaries or wages or pensions in the face of devaluations, spiralling inflation and other vagaries of the economy.

He said that government is unable to justify the price increase other than the puerile explanation that marketers need to recover their costs, without a thought for the aggregate or larger national interest including the need for local refining and creation of jobs.

Speaking also on the increase in electricity tariff, Comrade Wabba said that government has remained recalcitrant in spite of a subsisting court injunction on the issue of the criminal increase in electricity tariff even in the face of everworsening power supply situation.

“From the foregoing, it is evident that the neo-liberal forces in the government have taken over the government and we should expect more inhumane policies which will further degrade the living standard of the average Nigerian. The punitive electricity tariff and PMS product prices may just be teasers.”

On the position of National Union of Petrol and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Petrol and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), who have already supported the deregulation of the oil and gas sector, the NLC President said: ”NLC, TUC and other civil society allies are not unaware of the positions taken by the Unions in the oil and gas industry.”

“A process of engagement will be put in place in order to ensure the success of the struggle to protect the overall interest of the Nigerian people,” he added.

U.S To Help Nigeria Recover $350m stolen by Ex Nigerian Generals.

The United States government has reassured the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government that it would return at least $350m of stolen money from Nigeria.

US Secretary of State, John Kerry, made this pledge during the Anti-corruption Summit Plenary at Lancaster House London, United Kingdom.

He said, “This money goes somewhere, folks. When I read that tens of billions of dollars were stolen from President (Muhammadu) Buhari’s country by generals and put into other nations, some of it in our country – and we are now working to restore $350 million back, and there’s more to be restored to the people.

“And every one of those million dollars that comes back to a country is the opportunity to provide a desk and a chair and school and shelter and health care and meet the needs of nations. That is why we organise ourselves in the world around rule of law and in an effort to try to provide for our citizens,”

According to him, criminal activity is a destroyer of nation-states because it contributes to drug trafficking and arms smuggling.

Federal Government To Pay N5000 monthly to one million extremely poor Nigerians.

To cushion the harsh effect of the new pump price of Premium Motor Spirt, PMS also called petrol on the people, the presidency is set to implement the N500 billion earmarked in the 2016 budget for social welfare. A statement by the media spokesperson for Vice President Yemi Osinabjo, Mr. Laolu Akande in Abuja on Sunday stated “All together the federal government would be directly impacting the lives of more than 8 million Nigerians in different social investment 2016 budget spending that would provide succor and be a ready-made palliative to ordinary Nigerians.” Giving a breakdown of the interventions and palliatives, Akande said that said that there would “the direct payment of N5000 monthly to one million extremely poor Nigerians for 12 months as provided for in the 2016 budget for which N$68.7B has been appropriated.” Similarly, the government has also made available a “direct provision of very soft loan -cash for market women, men and traders, including artisans and Agric workers. This would be for a total of 1.76m Nigerians, without the requirement for conventional collateral. Some of the traders will likely get about N60,000. A total sum of N140.3B has already been appropriated for this in the budget”. The details also showed their there would be “payment of between N23,000 to N30,000 per month to 500,000 unemployed graduates who would be trained, paid and deployed to work as volunteer teachers, public health officers and extension service workers among other responsibilities. They would also be given electronic devices to empower them technologically both for their assignments and beyond”. According to the media aide, “100,000 artisans would also be trained and paid N191.5B has been set aside for this in the passed budget.” He also said that “At least 5.5 million Nigerian primary school children -ie starting first in 18 states-three per geopolitical zones-would be fed for 200 school days under the free Homegrown School Feeding Programme”, as “N93.1B has been appropriated for this in the 2016 budget.” In this same vein “100,000 tertiary students in Science Technology Engineering & Maths-STEM, plus Education will partake in the N5.8B already provided for this education grant in the budget. Akande stated that “This payment would also be paid directly to the students.” He stated that these measures that would start in a matter of weeks would certainly lift the ordinary man from the pangs of economic hardship and poverty. “Long before now, the Presidency has made adequate arrangements in the 2016 budget to ensure that Nigerians are lifted from poverty and hardship,” Akande said, adding that “the Buhari presidency is keen to ensure that Nigerians are lifted and that if necessary on an ongoing basis palliatives measures would always been considered to address the conditions of the people. 

Fuel pump price set to go on a high as federal government wants to deregulate the downstream sector of the oil industry. ...

Abuja - Nigerians have been warned to prepare themselves for elevated fuel prices, as the Federal Government gears up to deregulate the downstream sector of the oil industry.

According to a report by The Nation, the fuel price is set go increase by 27.17 percent nationwide, bringing the pump price at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to approximately N110 per litre, with independent distributors set to sell at higher rates.
Sources within the industry have indicated plans to allow petroleum distributors to gradually adjust their pump prices as early as this week as a preemptive measure in line with deregulation plans.

NNPC Spokesman Garbadeen Mohammed has since stated that news of deregulation is news to him.

The development follows a recent announcement made on the part of the NNPC declaring that it would be putting into place measures that would allow Nigeria to become more self-sufficient in terms of fuel supply

United's coach and a police escort were pelted with bottles on their approach to Upton Park, while Wayne Rooney was quick to criticize the home fans' actions.

"It wasn't nice," Rooney told Sky Sports. "The coach got smashed up, but we're here now, so we have to prepare for the game and go out and do our job.

"I'm sure you'll see the images. That's not for me to say, but I think it was disappointing of course.


"We know it's a big game for West Ham, a big night for them, leaving the stadium, but I'm sure West Ham as a club will be disappointed with what the fans have done."

Nigerian Army Has Cleared Seven Villages In Borno State

The Nigerian Army has cleared seven villages in Borno State as part of its operations againstBoko Haram

This was disclosed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman via a statement.

It reads:

“As the clearance and rescue operations gain momentum, troops of 28 Task Force Brigade have cleared the enclaves of Boko Haram terrorists at Galtha Baba, Galtha Musa, Bulakurma, Shatimari, Chukruk, Bulangaje and Disa villages.

“During the operation, one insurgent was captured. The soldiers rescued 15 persons held hostage by the terrorists.”

Usman also said that the soldiers had recovered three motorcycles, bags of grain, terrorists’ flags and uniforms during the operation.

Talking about Postinor 2; some call it ‘morning after pill’. Postinor 2 is an emergency contraceptive only. Postinor 2 is not intended as a regular method of contraception. It is used to prevent pregnancy when taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. It is estimated that it will prevent 85% of expected pregnancies. 95% of expected pregnancies will be prevented if taken within the first 24 hours, declining to 58% if taken between 48 hours and 72 hours after unprotected intercourse.

Take one tablet as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse. The sooner that you take the tablet, the more effective it is likely to be. It is best to take it immediately after you receive it. The first tablet should be taken no later than 72 hours after intercourse. Take the second tablet exactly 12 hours after the first tablet. As you must take the second tablet exactly 12 hours after the first tablet, you should work out a time when you will be able to take the second tablet (for example, not in the middle of the night when you will probably be asleep) and take the first tablet 12 hours before then. This means you might need to delay the first dose slightly. You should remember though that the sooner the first tablet is taken, the greater the likelihood of the treatment stopping you from falling pregnant

It contains 750 micrograms of Levonorgestrel, a progesterone only pill and other ingredients like silica, colloidal anhydrous, magnesium stearate, potato starch, talc, maize starch, lactose monohydrate. Although Postinor 2 is effective, it is an emergency contraceptive. When used within 72 hours of unprotected sex, it helps reduce the chances of being pregnant. Many young ladies make it arbitrary to use Postinor 2 anytime they feel like; making it an everyday pill.

This drug isn’t made as a regular method of contraception contrary to the way it’s been abused. There are lots of risks associated with the constant use of this drug; just like the abuse of any other drug. Most ladies are naïve; consuming the pills in clinically unsafe ways. They use these drugs without knowing the way it interacts with the body system forgetting people react to drugs in different ways.

For Postinor-2 to have been used in the first instance, it means the intercourse was without protection; putting the lady as well as the man at risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases.Postinor-2 is only a contraceptive; an immediate preventive measure of reducing the chances of getting pregnant. As effective as this pill is, it doesn’t prevent one from being infected with viral diseases. The contraceptive’s effectiveness could be reduced when patients on medications for asthma, epilepsy, renal impairment, diabetes mellitus, heart failure, depression, hypertension, thromboembolic diseases use this pill. The use of this drug with other medications treating these conditions could lead to serious complications.Weight gain has been associated with the use of this pill in some women.Nausea, breast tenderness, headache, lower abdominal pain and tiredness may occur. These adverse effects subside within few days.There is high risk of infertility when ladies often use Postinor-2 wrongly; using more than a tablet at once, combining the pills with other drugs and consuming more than twelve pills in a month.Prolonged use of this emergency contraceptive could cause a woman’s monthly period to seize indefinitely or become irregular. One Mohammed Zure, a suspected Fulani herdsman who allegedly took part in the recent mayhem unleashed on an Enugu community, has reportedly revealed how he and his syndicate planned and carried out the attack.

Zure, who is currently in custody at the Kogi state police command, reportedly told the Punch that the attack was planned in Kogi state, disclosing how members were recruited from different parts of the country to carry out the attacRecall that the rampaging herdsmen recently attacked Nimbo community, Uzo- Uwani local government area of Eugu state, killing about 50 people.
Zure was said to have been arrested after the police reportedly stumbled on a gory video of the Enugu massacre on his phone.

A police source, who pleaded anonymity said, “Zure was granted bail and because he needed someone to take him on bail, the investigating officer decided to switch on his phone.

“Out of curiosity, he decided to go through the content of the phone. It was in the process that he discovered horrible video clips of a murder scene.

“Everything changed immediately and he was taken back to the interrogation room where he later confessed that he was the one who took the video
while they were slaughtering one of the victims during the Enugu killings.
In the video, you could hear him shouting and saying in Hausa ‘I have killed you now. You think that you can kill Fulani herdsmen and go free’.

“He personally took the picture to show his family members that he was actually successful and participated in the killings,” the unnamed police source added, noting that Zure also confessed that over 100 Fulani herdsmen were recruited for the Enugu attack after being invited from over six states from across the federation.

The source continued, “He confessed that they were more than 100 and were selected from different states especially from Taraba , Kogi, Benue, Nasarrawa , Kas­tina , Niger and Kaduna states.

“He claimed that the people of Nimbo had killed so many of their people in the past and government did not do anything about it, adding that they also reported severally to Nimbo elders but they refused to investigate, that was why they decided to retaliate.

“Zure alleged that their people in Nimbo shared Kolanut to all cattle rearers across the country. What it signifies is that there is going to be an attack and everyone should send representatives to support them.

“The suspect alleged that this is their custom and has been existing. He was nominated to join them because he was born and raised in Enugu by his father who is also a herdsman,” the police source added.

Speaking further, the police source said two days before the attack, the suspects all gathered in a community in Kogi and perfected how they would execute the attack.

“The police has since commenced serious manhunt for the fleeing herdsmen who they believe have fled the eastern state since the attack,” the source was quoted to have said.

Zimbabwe produces its own version of the u.s dollar

Zimbabwe is set to print its own version of the United States (U.S.) dollar in order to ease a cash shortage in the country.

Central Bank Governor, John Mangudya, said the cash, known as bond notes, will be backed by $200m (£140m) support from the Africa Export-Import Bank.

The specially-designed two, five, 10 and 20 dollar notes will have the same value as their U.S. dollar equivalents.

Zimbabwe introduced the U.S. dollar after ditching its own currency in 2009 following sustained hyper-inflation.

Since then Zimbabweans have been using the dollar, as well as a number of other foreign currencies including the South African rand and the Chinese yuan.

But the BBC in the capital, Harare, say that bank customers are not always able to withdraw the amount of U.S. dollars they want because of a shortage of dollar notes in Zimbabwe.

The governor stressed that the issuing of bond notes was not the first step on the way to reintroducing the defunct currency, the Zimbabwe Herald newspaper reports.

Mr. Mangudya also introduced a number of other measures to steer people away from using U.S. dollar cash.

This includes setting a $1,000 limit on how much cash can be taken out of the country.

He wants to encourage people to make greater use of the rand since a large portion of Zimbabwe’s trade is with South Africa.

But it was reported that people are reluctant to hold rands, as they are not confident that the currency will maintain its value against the dollar.

Jamie Vardy scored a brace and missed a penalty as new Premier League champions Leicester City comfortably defeated Everton 3-1 on Saturday ahead of their trophy presentation ceremony.

Vardy, banned for Leicester’s two previous games, struck in each half at a jubilant King Power Stadium, with Andy King also on target, and would have had a hat-trick had he not blazed a second-half penalty over the bar.

But personal milestones were of secondary importance on a day when players, staff and supporters of the modest east Midlands club, who narrowly escaped relegation last season, united in joyous celebration of their 5,000-1 title triumph.

Fans were treated to a pre-match performance by renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, who prompted roars of approval from the flag-waving home support by removing his jacket to reveal a blue Leicester shirt as he sang.

Steve Worthy, a lifelong Leicester fan, was due to present the trophy to captain Wes Morgan following the game after winning a competition arranged by league sponsors Barclays.

The 25kg trophy has been decorated with ribbons of blue, for Leicester, and yellow, representing the royal house of Thailand, home country of club owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

Leicester play their final game of the season next Sunday at outgoing champions Chelsea, the former club of inspirational manager Claudio Ranieri, before an open-top bus parade in Leicester on May 16.

Second-place Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea last Monday, which gave Leicester the title, sparked a week of celebrations in the city and fans arrived at the stadium several hours before kick-off on Saturday to drink in the moment.

Police parade cult members in benue state.

Not less than 14 suspected cultists connected with the recent clash between rival cult groups in Otukpo have been arrested by the Benue State Police Command.

The clash left three persons dead with five others severely injured.

Parading the suspects at the police headquarters, Makurdi yesterday, the Commissioner of Police, Dibal Yakadi, said that the suspected cultists were arrested in Otukpo following an intelligence report on their involvement in cult activities in the area.

Represented at the briefing by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu, the commissioner listed exhibits recovered from the suspects to include one red unregistered Jianshe motorcycle, three locally made pistols, and three cartridges.

Others are one 7.62mm live ammunition, two car stereos, one Army camouflage uniform, one white beret, two charms, some wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and one ford bus used in conveying some of the cultists.

Some of the suspects, while speaking with The Guardian, denied any involvement in cult activities, even as the police boss insisted that the police did its homework well before picking up those who were fingered in the cult clash.

People who get too little sleep are said to face the risk of raising their bad cholesterol, which may be detrimental to the state of their heart health. According to a study published in the journal, Scientific Reports, just a week of inadequate sleep Ukcan damage the heart due to a rise in ‘bad’ cholesterol.

The researchers showed that people who spent too few hours in bed also had less ‘good’ cholesterol circulating in their blood, than those who slept sufficiently. Seven to eight hours of sleep for adults was recommended by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), the body dedicated to improving health and well-being through sleep education and advocacy.

A PhD student in sleep research at the University of Helsinki, Vilma Aho, said based on the outcome of this study, people should be educated on the importance of getting the right amount of rest to prevent common diseases, as well as eating healthily and exercising.

Genes, which regulate the transport of cholesterol around the body are less active in sleep deprived people than those getting a good night’s rest, the researchers found. However, the findings could explain why those who get less than the recommended seven to eight hours sleep a night were at higher risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease, heart attacks and strokes.

Cholesterol is a kind of fat made by the liver and found in the blood, which is essential to the body as cells and organs need it. But there are two types; ‘good’ high-density lipoproteins or HDL, and ‘bad’ or low-density lipoproteins.

‘Bad cholesterol’ can damage the walls of the arteries, causing them to become hardened, scarred and plaques form. These plaques can restrict blood flow to the heart, causing a heart attack, or can break off and travel to the brain, causing a stroke.

Good cholesterol, on the other hand, acts as a magnet, hoovering up the bad cholesterol and moving it out of the arteries and into tissues such as the liver, or to make hormones.

The team, from the University of Helsinki in Finland, wanted to find out why lack of sleep was linked with more heart problems and strokes. According to report in the mailonline, the researchers analysed people sleeping in a laboratory, and looked at data on sleep levels and disease in members of the general population. Similarly, they looked at the impact of sleep deprivation on how genes regulating the transport of cholesterol around the body – and on the actual levels of cholesterol in the blood.

The man described as the most dangerous Australian involved with Islamic State has been killed, according to Australian officials.

Neil Prakash died in a US airstrike in Iraq, Australia's Attorney General George Brandis revealed.

Prakash, the country's most wanted terror suspect connected with IS, was linked to several attacks on home soil.

He died in Mosul on 29 April as a result of Australian intelligence, the authorities said.

"Neil Prakash was a prominent ISIL member and a senior terrorist recruiter and attack facilitator," Mr Brandis said in a joint statement with Defence Minister Marise Payne.

"Prakash has been linked to several Australia-based attack plans and calls for lone-wolf attacks against the United States.

"He is considered to be Australia's most prominent ISIL recruiter."

Prakash, who left Australia in 2013, was also known as Abu Khaled al Cambodi.

The 24-year-old former rapper from Melbourne was of Cambodian and Fijian descent and converted from Buddhism in 2012.

He was linked to several militant attack plans in Australia, had featured in IS recruitment videos and urged lone wolf attacks against the US.

His death disrupts and degrades ISIL's ability to recruit vulnerable people in our community to conduct terrorist acts," said the Attorney General, adding that up to 59 Australians had so far been killed fighting for jihadists in Iraq or Syria.

Australian Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said: "This is a good outcome for the safety and security of our country.

"He's an evil person. He was involved in the deaths of people. He was wanting to inspire hatred in our country.

"He wanted young people to be following in the footsteps of martyrs elsewhere, committing terrorist acts here, and our country's a safer place for him having left it."

The US also confirmed the death in Syria of the sister of a 15-year-old Australian schoolboy shot dead by police after he targeted and killed a police accountant outside a Sydney police station in October last year.

Shadi Jabhar Khalil Mohammad left Australia the day before her brother Farhad Jabhar died.

She and her Sudanese husband, Abu Sa'ad al Sudani, were killed in a US airstrike near the Syrian town of al Bab on 22 April.  

At least 110 more Australians are still fighting as part of IS forces.
